CamGuest Here we find CamGuest, an adult chat site with a gratifyingly large selection of performers to choose from -- over 1,000, in fact. Most of these performers are the requisite girls (N=873), with a smattering of couples and single guys, which is to be expected. The feminine selection appears to be very fine in all senses of the word; not only are these ladies lovely, they appear to possess, in aggregate, the ethnic diversity and variability in body type, hair color, and temperament that makes for a decent chat site indeed (though of course they're weighted heavily toward the Caucasian end of the scale). For those of us who favor the homegirls, a casual glance suggests that we're in luck -- many of the performers are clearly home-based, given the variety of homey backgrounds against which they're performing. Here's a glimpse of what you'll see on the splash page.  But alas, there's trouble in paradise. For one thing, where are the active girls? Is anyone ever online? If not, why not? The way we figure it, any site with over 1,000 performers ought to have people online no matter what time you check, but we never found any. Obviously, the people who run CamGuest are operating under different mercantile assumptions than we are, or are using a business plan oriented toward making money some way other than one might expect, given the type of site this appears to be. Dammit, an adult chat site is supposed to be anything but boring! When will people learn that? If they can't do better than this, why shouldn’t we all go to I’mLive or CamContacts or FlirtForFree, where we know there are performers waiting for us? And unlike, say, WellCams or even the disappointing SexOnCam, they don't even provide schedules to let you know when specific performers are going to be online next. Is this because the performers don't really exist? Hmmm? Looking at CamGuest, and having clicked through a number of the links here, we've concluded that a lot of the site is probably BS anyway -- mostly set up to lead you to third-party annoyance sites. We've seen lure sites before, sites that were intended more to get users to buy videos and other crap than to entertain with adult chat. It's hard to be sure if CamGuest is one of them, but isn't it funny how the "Top Five Cams" change every single time you refresh the page, even if it's only been a couple of seconds? Try it yourself. As far as we're concerned, this is just another example of how some providers in the adult entertainment industry feel no compunction about lying to their potential customers. But let's pretend that the girls at CamGuest are real. One thing they do on their details pages is list their rates, which usually operate on a sliding scale -- as they put it, "the longer you watch, the cheaper it gets!" But it doesn't really get cheap unless you decide to watch for over an hour, and that seems unlikely in the extreme. In fact, CamGuest girls usually charge on the middle to high end of the scale, with $2.75 per minute and up being very common for private and voyeur chat. They do claim to offer free public chat, so there's that, assuming you can figure out a way to take advantage of it. And thank goodness you don't have to pay for a membership, because then CamGuest wouldn't be worth anyone's while. You do have to register, but all it costs you is your name, password, and email address. If you dare deposit any funds, you can use CCBill to charge the account in the standard $25, $50, $75, or $100 increments, using either a credit card or a check. But wait, don't rush out to do that quite yet -- frequent the site for a while to see whether you're ever likely to find someone online to spend that money on. We don't think you will. One thing we have to give CamGuest is that their interface is pretty good. It doesn’t always work the way we'd like -- for example, sometimes the drop down menu used to filter for types of performers worked for us, and sometimes it didn't -- but generally it was easy to navigate around the site and take a look at the various details pages for the girls. It was impossible to tell, however, what the video was like in the chat rooms, since we were never able to locate anyone to chat with. We suspect, given the quality of a looping video that sometimes appears on the home page, that the video quality is quite good. Too bad we can't prove it. Similarly, we can't say anything about the extent or worthiness of the purported free chat. So, to wrap it up: CamGuest has a big selection of hot-looking girls to choose from, many of whom are clearly homegirls, and the variety is good. But it seems that this is yet another case of "the lights are on, but no one's home." So CamGuest is another big yawner at best, and at worse, may be a front for something seedier. Needless to say, we won't be adding CamGuest to our visitation list, though we may come back around occasionally to see if anything has changed. The consensus for now? Avoid it.
